Electrical Automation Engineer

We’re looking for an experienced Electrical & Automation Engineer to play a vital role in
keeping production running smoothly and efficiently for a forward-thinking manufacturer in
the food production sector, known for innovation, efficiency, and a commitment to quality.
You’ll work as part of a collaborative maintenance team, focusing on diagnosing faults,
implementing planned maintenance, and supporting automation systems across a modern
food manufacturing site.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone with strong electrical and PLC expertise who
enjoys problem-solving and thrives in a fast-paced production environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the design, programming, testing, and commissioning of automation systems, including PLCs, HMIs, servo drives, and SCADA.
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting for control systems and electrical faults on site.
- Work collaboratively with mechanical engineers as part of a multi-skilled team, supporting disciplines when needed.
- Deliver planned and reactive maintenance to reduce downtime and improve equipment efficiency.
- Monitor and assess system performance, recommending upgrades or improvements where applicable.
- Keep accurate and up-to-date records of all electrical and automation systems.
- Get involved in Capex projects and site-wide continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure all work comply with health, safety, and hygiene standards in a food production environment.
- Complete daily checks and planned preventive maintenance (PPM) tasks in a timely, thorough manner.
- Use the CMMS system to log work orders, maintenance history, and manage spare parts.
- Contribute to training others and identify personal development needs.
- Maintain tools and equipment in a safe and serviceable condition.
- Carry out other duties aligned with team and project objectives as required.
What We’re Looking For:
Essential
- At least 5 years’ experience working as an electrician in a fast-paced manufacturing or production environment.
- Strong hands-on experience with Siemens PLCs, including programming, fault finding, and system troubleshooting.
- Solid understanding of industrial electrical systems, including motors, circuits, and control panels.
Desirable
- Experience within a food manufacturing setting.
- Familiarity with mechanical handling systems such as conveyors, elevators, and milling equipment.
Education & Qualifications
- NVQ Level 3 (or international equivalent) in Electrical Installation or Maintenance.
- Further automation or mechatronics training would be advantageous.
