Manufacturing Engineer – 12-Month Fixed-Term Contract
Location: Stockport
Sector: Engineering & Defence

Are you an experienced Manufacturing Engineer looking for your next challenge in a highly specialised engineering environment? We’re currently offering an exciting 12-month fixed-term opportunity to join a well-established defence and engineering business at the forefront of military-grade vehicle systems and large-scale mechanical fabrications.

With a history spanning more than 100 years, our client is recognised for delivering complex engineering solutions to government and defence sectors across the globe.

The Role

As a Manufacturing Engineer, you’ll be part of a multidisciplinary team supporting continuous improvement and operational efficiency across production. This is a hands-on position, focused on developing and refining manufacturing processes to improve quality, reduce waste, and ensure smooth product flow across large, complex fabrication projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and develop manufacturing methods for large, high-spec fabrications.
  • Drive improvements in cycle times, changeovers, and overall efficiency through lean tools and techniques.
  • Analyse quality and production data to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Coordinate cross-functional improvement plans and lead structured problem-solving initiatives (8D or similar).
  • Apply modern manufacturing principles to reduce cost and improve delivery without compromising on safety or quality.
  • Collaborate with design and development teams to ensure manufacturability of new products.
  • Ensure compliance with all Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality standards.
  • Support capital investment projects and contribute to a culture of operational excellence.

What We’re Looking For

  • HND, Higher Apprenticeship, or ideally Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Demonstrable experience in a manufacturing engineering role, preferably within an industrial, defence, or technical environment.
  • Proven success in delivering production improvements and lean initiatives.
  • Knowledge of complex fabrication and assembly processes.
  • Working knowledge of SAP or other ERP systems would be advantageous.
  • Strong problem-solving mindset, with excellent attention to detail and communication skills.

Join a collaborative and forward-thinking team dedicated to engineering excellence and innovation. This is a great opportunity to make an impact on high-profile programmes in a supportive and technically rich environment.
