Renewable Energy
Josh Pinchbeck
We are looking for a System Engineer to support the performance, reliability, and operational stability of live Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) sites. You will work directly with field operations, remote monitoring teams, and engineering groups to diagnose system issues, monitor site behavior, and ensure safe and efficient operation of deployed assets.
This is an on-site and field-support role for active BESS installations.
• Support on-site troubleshooting across system layers including PCS, batteries, controls, thermal systems, and communication networks.
• Assist with commissioning, functional testing, and validation activities during upgrades, repairs, and site expansions.
• Monitor system behavior (alarms, events, cycling performance, thermal trends) and escalate abnormalities.
• Perform system-level diagnostics and collaborate with engineering to drive root cause resolution for faults and recurring issues.
• Review and implement engineering change instructions, software updates, and configuration revisions on live assets.
• Work with field technicians to verify system safety, interlocks, alarms, and performance criteria after interventions.
• Provide system performance reports and technical summaries for internal teams and customers.
• Participate in reliability improvements by identifying patterns, weak points, and optimization opportunities.
• Support customer/site meetings, audits, and technical walkdowns.
• Ensure all work follows site safety procedures, lockout/tagout protocols, and operational standards.
• Experience with live BESS sites, renewable power plants, power electronics, or grid-connected systems.
• Strong understanding of system architecture, controls logic, and interactions between PCS, batteries, and HVAC.
• Ability to troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and software-related issues on active equipment.
• Excellent diagnostic, communication, and reporting skills.
• Comfortable working on operational sites with strict safety and compliance requirements.
• Hands-on, problem-solving mindset suited to dynamic field conditions.
• Bachelor’s degree in Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, or Controls Engineering preferred.
• 3–7+ years supporting field operations, site engineering, or commissioning of energy or industrial systems.
• Experience with SCADA, EMS, BMS, or PCS interfaces is a strong advantage.
I find top talent in the renewable energy sector —perm or contract, I’ve got it covered. I love recruitment’s chaos, my clients love my honesty and speed. Big Man United fan too… so I’m no stranger to long waits!
