Business Development Manager
Location: Remote / Field-Based
Salary: £65,000–£70,000 + uncapped commission
Travel: UK travel as required
The Opportunity
We’re working with a growing UK connectivity business that is investing heavily in the next stage of its Wholesale & Enterprise division.
Although the wider business is established and well funded, this part of the organisation is still very much in build mode. The foundations are there, the network is there and the wider support structure is being put in place – now they need commercially driven Business Development Managers who can go out, create opportunities and turn them into revenue.
This is not an account management role.
There are dedicated teams in place to support existing customers, partners and long-term account development. The focus here is new business, new logos and growth.
They are open to people coming from different routes to market, including:
Direct Enterprise
Wholesale / Telco
Reseller / Channel
MSP / Systems Integrator
What matters most is that you know how to open doors, build pipeline and create business rather than waiting for opportunities to land in front of you.
What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll take ownership of developing new revenue opportunities across the Wholesale & Enterprise market.
That will include:
Building and managing your own new-business pipeline
Identifying target organisations, partners and decision-makers
Proactively generating opportunities through calls, LinkedIn, networking, referrals and face-to-face activity
Getting out into the market and building relationships with prospective customers and partners
Developing opportunities across direct and indirect sales channels
Understanding customer requirements and positioning the right connectivity solution
Managing opportunities from initial engagement through to commercial close
Maintaining strong CRM discipline and accurate pipeline information
Working closely with Marketing on campaigns and market engagement
Collaborating with Solutions Sales and technical teams on more complex opportunities
Feeding back market intelligence, competitor activity and customer requirements
Helping shape the commercial approach as the Wholesale & Enterprise function continues to develop
You won’t be expected to do everything yourself.
The business is continuing to build a wider commercial support function around the sales team, including Solutions Sales, Sales Acceleration, Marketing, Customer Success and Partner Management.
Your job is simple:
Create conversations. Build pipeline. Win business.
Who They’re Looking For
This role will suit someone who genuinely enjoys new business sales.
You’ll ideally have experience within telecoms, connectivity, technology, managed services or another relevant B2B environment, but they are much more interested in what you have actually achieved than whether your CV fits one very specific channel.
You’ll need to be:
A genuine new-business hunter
Comfortable self-generating opportunities
Highly motivated by targets and earning potential
Confident cold calling and approaching businesses directly
Comfortable getting out face-to-face rather than relying entirely on desk-based selling
Able to operate independently without needing every process or lead source handed to you
Commercially curious and confident speaking with senior decision-makers
Comfortable working in a fast-moving, growth-stage environment
Resilient, proactive and naturally driven
Someone who takes ownership and gets themselves moving
They are particularly interested in people who have previously worked in environments where they have had to build a territory, create their own pipeline or help establish a new commercial proposition.
The Environment
This opportunity is probably best described as a start-up environment within an established business.
The wider organisation has been operating for several years and has significant infrastructure and investment behind it, but the Wholesale & Enterprise proposition is still being built.
That means there is a genuine opportunity to influence:
How the market is approached
Which customer segments are prioritised
How different sales channels develop
How the commercial process evolves
How the wider sales team grows
You need to be comfortable joining something where everything isn’t already perfectly finished.
If you need a mature sales machine, a full diary of inbound leads and every process already mapped out for you, this probably won’t be the right environment.
If you like the idea of joining early, creating your own opportunities and helping build something properly, it could be a very strong fit.
Geography
The business is continuing to develop its commercial presence across its existing network footprint and growth areas, with particular focus around the London / OxCam corridor and Manchester / North West.
They are therefore interested in people who understand their local business market, have strong commercial networks or know how to create one quickly.
Package
£65,000–£70,000 basic salary
Uncapped commission
Strong earning potential for high performers
Remote / field-based working
Support from Marketing, Solutions Sales and the wider commercial team
Opportunity to join at an early stage of the Wholesale & Enterprise growth journey
Genuine longer-term progression as the commercial function scales
Interested?
If you’re a commercially driven new-business salesperson who enjoys opening doors, building pipeline and winning business – and you like the idea of joining something while it is still being built – I’d love to speak with you.
This is particularly suited to people who want the freedom and earning potential of a growth environment, but with the backing and infrastructure of an established business.
