The Opportunity
We are working with a global ingredients supplier that is looking to appoint a commercially driven Business Development Manager to grow its UK customer base.
This is a genuine new-business role for somebody who enjoys building a market, opening doors and developing long-term commercial relationships.
You won’t be stepping into a fully established desk with a ready-made pipeline. You’ll be expected to identify target businesses, build your own network and create new opportunities across UK manufacturing.
Once new customers are secured, the wider business will manage operations, supply chain and fulfilment, allowing you to remain focused on sales, relationship development and commercial growth.
As the customer base develops, the position will naturally evolve to include more account management and customer development.
What You’ll Be Doing
Identifying and targeting new customers across UK manufacturing
Developing a new-business pipeline through proactive outreach and market research
Building relationships with procurement teams, technical contacts, manufacturers and business owners
Understanding customer requirements and matching these with suitable ingredients and raw materials
Managing the full sales process from initial contact through to commercial agreement
Negotiating pricing, volumes and commercial terms
Working closely with internal operations, warehousing and supply chain teams
Maintaining accurate sales activity, pipeline and customer information
Attending customer meetings across the UK when required
Developing existing accounts as the customer portfolio grows
Keeping up to date with market activity, industry trends and competitor developments
Industries You Could Sell Into
The business supplies ingredients and specialist raw materials across a wide range of sectors, including:
Food and beverage
Nutraceuticals and dietary supplements
Sports nutrition
Functional foods
Animal nutrition and pet food
Personal care and cosmetics
Home care and household products
Pharmaceuticals
Industrial chemicals
Coatings, paints and inks
Plastics and polymers
Rubber and adhesives
Agriculture and feed additives
Performance materials
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for somebody with a strong new-business mentality who is comfortable creating opportunities rather than waiting for leads.
You’ll ideally have:
Previous experience in B2B sales, business development or account development
A proven track record of winning new customers
Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills
The confidence to build a territory or customer base from the ground up
The ability to research markets and identify relevant decision-makers
A proactive, resilient and self-motivated approach
Strong communication and relationship-building skills
The ability to understand and confidently sell technical products
A full UK driving licence
The right to work in the UK without sponsorship
The ability to commute to Trafford Park on a daily basis
Direct experience selling ingredients, chemicals, additives, raw materials or technical products into manufacturers would be highly advantageous.
Applications are also welcomed from strong new-business sales professionals from adjacent manufacturing, distribution or technical markets.
